About the RECOM

The RECOM (Revista Española de Cirugía Oral y Maxilofacial) is the official scientific publication of the SECOM-CyC (Sociedad Española de Cirugía Oral y Maxilofacial y de Cabeza y Cuello). The RECOM was first launched in 1979, and is currently an electronic journal that is published quarterly (4 issues a year), that charges no publication fees to authors, and that reports relevant papers in the field of oral and maxillofacial surgery and of head and neck surgery, in Spanish or in English. The RECOM operates in the medical journal sector, and is indexed in Scopus and Scielo.

The RECOM is a Spanish-language journal with an international focus that accepts papers in English, whose primary target audience resides in Spanish-speaking countries. The RECOM adopts the “Free Journals” and “Open Access” policies to enhance dissemination and accessibility of information in the fields of oral and maxillofacial surgery, and head and neck surgery.

The RECOM includes original research papers, editorials, reviews, special articles, case reports, and letters to the Editor, emphasizing originals dealing with clinical series and case reports of excellence because of their rare or uncommon nature. Published studies are primarily focused on clinical aspects and surgical innovation, but basic research papers are also welcomed.

The adoption of the highest quality and scientific education standards, with thorough peer reviews, also reflects the Journal’s values.

VISION:

Our vision is to combine efforts and work for the advancement of knowledge and science in the field of oral and maxillofacial, and head and neck surgery together with Spanish-speaking health care professionals both in Spain and in the Americas, offering high-quality contents to contribute to scientific education by fostering exchange and dissemination of experiences and contributions, attracting collaborations, and providing value in other international sites of scientific production.

Our vision is to continue being the main journal in the field of oral and maxillofacial surgery, and of head and neck surgery in the Spanish-speaking world, promoting all surgical aspects at the leading edge of science and technological developments.

Every issue includes articles on current techniques and surgical innovations covering the whole spectrum of surgery in the orofacial, head and neck region. Topics include: congenital craniofacial deformities, orthognathic surgery, facial esthetic surgery, traumatology, temporomandibular joint (TMJ), head and neck oncology, reconstructive surgery, salivary gland disorders, implantology/dentoalveolar surgery, oral medicine and research, and emerging technologies, hence representing an excellent resource for oral and maxillofacial, craniofacial, plastic, and ear-nose-throat (ENT) surgeons alike.

MISSION:

To provide a communication forum for all professionals involved in the field of oral and maxillofacial, and head neck surgery, encompassing both surgery in clinical practice and basic science.

To catalize the efforts of professionals in the Spanish-speaking world to promote, foster, and sustain advance in the study of oral and maxillofacial, and head and neck surgery, and to ensure that knowledge contributes to improve treatments and patient care.

To disseminate papers in Spanish or in English dealing with the concepts, etiopathogenesis, epidemiology, clinical manifestations, diagnoses, and treatments of oral and maxillofacial, and head and neck surgery.

VALUES:

The Journal’s abbreviated title is Rev Esp Cir Oral y Maxilofac, which must be used in citations, footnotes, and literature references.
