Types of articles

Original papers
Papers submitted for this section will deal with oral surgery, implantology and preprosthetics, oncology, reconstructive surgery, orthognathic surgery, esthetic surgery and craniofacial deformities, craniomaxillofacial traumatology, temporomandibular joint, salivary glands, amongst others. They may be research and experimental surgery articles, doctoral dissertation summaries, experimental clinical trials, or papers with more of a clinical focus. Their structure must includethe following sections: Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, Discussion, Conclusions, and References. Maximum length will be 10 DIN-A4 pages, and up to 3 tables and 10 figures. They must include an abstract (original and translation) of up to a maximum of 250 words, structured into: Objectives, Materials and Methods, Results, and Conclusions. Literature references should not exceed 25. The maximum number of undersigned authors will be 6. Controlled clinical trials must be presented according to the CONSORT Guidelines, available from: http://www.consort-statement.org/. In the case of observational studies, these must comply with the “Checklist” available from: http://www.strobe-statement.org/. Systematic reviews and meta-analyses must adhere to the PRISMA Guidelines, available from: http://www.prisma-statement.org/statement.htm. Studies on the validity of diagnostic tests must conform with the STARD Guidelines, available from: http://www.stard-statement.org.

Case reports
The RECOM Editorial Board has chosen to include some case reports as well as technical notes (surgical techniques or modifications thereof). Format would be similar to that of a poster, or of conventional text with a length of one page. Lines will be double-spaced, with margins of 2.5 cm. Maximum extension will be 1,200 words, 4 figures, and 10 references; the number of undersigned authors will be 4 at most. The manuscrupt will comply with the following structure: 1. Title. 2. Non-structured abstract in both Spanish and English. Its unique nature, or the novelty of the treatment or intervention involved, must be indicated. In clinical notes the technical novelty, modification of a prior standard, or advantage of the technique involved must be specified. 3. Keywords in Spanish and English; 4. Text, including the following sections: a) Introduction, b) Case report/Technique, c) Discussion. Acknowledgments will be included at the end of the main body of text. 5. References. 6. Figures. 7. Figure legends. 8. Tables (optional)..

Letters to the Editor
Objections or comments concerning previously published papers, or brief remarks or experiences will make up this section. Letters must not exceed 2 DIN-A4 pages, and up to 10 references may be included, together with up to 2 figures and/or one table. The number of undersigned authors is restricted to 4. Letters dealing with papers previously published in the Journal may be followed by a similarly long rebuttal letter by the initial author within a month. The appropriateness of the rebuttal will be assessed by the Editorial Board.

Reviews
These will be proposed by the Editorial Board to national or foreign professionals of renowned experience in the subject of interest. They will include an update on a specialty-related topical subject by means of a review of the recent literature. Maximum extension will be 10 DIN A-4 pages. The abstract (original and translation) will have a maximum of 250 words. Four keywords in Spanish and in English, and up to 50 references should be included.

Controversies

These will be papers proposed by the Journal’s Board to two national or foreign professionals with renowned expertise in the subject of interest. These authors will discuss their different perspectives on the same topical science subject. Maximum extension will be 10 DIN A-4 pages (and up to 5 tables and 10 figures). An abstract (original and translation) with up to 250 words must be included, structured into: Objectives, Materials and Methods, Results, and Conclusions. Four keywords in Spanish and in English, and a maximum of 25 references must also be present. The maximum number of undersigned authors will be 4.

Other sections
This journal includes other sections, including requested sections as the Editorial and Literature review, as well as the sections Courses and Conferences, and Prizes and Grants.
